Charles University (CU), the oldest and largest university in the Czech Republic, established the Faculty of Medicine Hradec Králové in 1945 as the first University Faculty in East Bohemia.

Currently with over 1700 students, this Hradec Králové medicine program focuses on General Medicine and Dentistry, primarily theoretical, pre-clinical and clinical studies. With more than 4000 staff and 1400 beds at the Faculty Hospital, the Faculty of Medicine Hradec Králové is a leader in many areas of medical developments.

Degree programs in English were established in 1992 and fully accredited courses are taught in parallel with those taught in Czech. Learning the Czech language is a requirement, however, during the first two years of study.

In addition to teaching, The Faculty of Medicine Hradec Králové places a strong emphasis on science and research. Hradec Králové medicine focuses on biomedical research in the fields of disease, oncology and aging. In 1967, the hospital became the first in the Czech Republic to regularly use hemodialysis.
